More about the game
What is Great Chess of Amir Timur?
Also known as Tamerlane chess or Shatranj al-Kabir, it is a historic chess variant played at the court of Amir Timur (1336–1405). It uses a board of 11 columns by 10 rows, with 112 squares including the two citadels.
It has pieces that do not exist in standard chess: giraffes, camels, scouts, war machines, a general and a vizier. Each pawn promotes to its own piece, and stalemate is a win, not a draw.
